Today I tutored Maram for the first time, she is from
Arab Emirates. She is a bright, shy young lady with a great desire to learn the
most English she can before she gives birth to her baby girl in May. I
asked how could I help her and she said, she needed help with her speaking and
writing skills, specifically with
sentence structure, prepositions and question formulation. Maram showed me some of her schoolwork and I
helped her correct her beautiful mistakes. Since she had questions about me, I
told her to write four of them on a piece of paper and then read them out loud
for me, this way she could hear herself and see if each of the question made
sense to her. She realized, for the most
part, where her beautiful mistakes were. I told Maram, that I would like her to
write a few more questions for next week and also write a small paragraph about
her feelings and/or experience of becoming a mother for the first time. Next
week, I will review with her the assignment, and continue helping
her with writing, grammar and speaking skills.
waw... this is great idea with writing down questions! i haven't thought about it. and writing about her experience too, thanks! :)
