Helena TS #1

My first tutoring session was, luckily, an observation of another tutoring session. I definitely was happy that I was able to observe a session before tutoring someone myself, for I was really able to get a feel for what one-on-one tutoring sessions required of both the tutor and the tutee. I observed a tutoring session of the beautifully intelligent P.J. Chang! I was able to learn more about P.J's strengths and weaknesses in reading comprehension, which is where he is hoping to improve. I was also able to see P.J.'s tutor use a schema-building activity, meaning that he would show P.J. a video that related in some way to the stories that we were going to go over. This seemed very helpful for P.J. He was able to visualize the schemas prior to entering a story, and thus be better able to understand it.
