Matthew_ ICCP#4
For this session I was assigned four students. Hamed and Hoda were both from the Middle East. Xiaoleo was a very eager student from China. Finally, Amaly was from Puerto Rico. Our group was very eclectic and facilitated really great conversations. Hamed and Hoda told me that it would be very inappropriate to refuse coffee in their countries. Hamed said that specifically if one were to refuse coffee it would be disrespectful to him, his house, and his family. Furthermore, Amaly told me that most people in PR would greet each other with kisses, however, she finds it uncomfortable for strangers. It served as a valuable example that there are always exceptions to the general cultural rule. Xiaoleo confronted me at the end of the lesson and asked me if I needed any connections to teach English in China. It was very thoughtful of him and we had a very in-depth discussion about different places to see in China.
