This evening, I met as my
conversation partner a young and sweet Colombian girl named Maria Viviescas. She
said she came to U.S. to learn English because the quality of English taught in
her country is very bad, then she wants to study pedagogy in her country. She
asked a few questions about myself and was puzzle about why I came to Tallahassee
after living in beautiful Hawaii for three years. I told her that I still ask
myself that question. She told me she misses her home country and her mom’s
cooking. I asked, how could I help her and she said she needed lots of help with
speaking. I notice that her listening skill is pretty good, but as she said she
has to work on her speaking. Then Maria’s friend, Luna, joined us in the conversation.
Luna is a lively and friendly girl from Colombia. She is in Foundations, Maria
is in level 1. Since Luna has the most difficulty with English, I asked Maria to
help Luna with her mistakes and in return I would help her with her mistakes as
she helped Luna. It worked out great and we had a great time. I am looking
forward to meet these girls next week and help them with their vocabulary and
speaking.
