Kerri TS #8

Last night Abdullah and I worked extensively on new vocabulary in context and speaking. He is a big fan of the television show "Family Guy", so most of his words came from that show. He watches it with the English subtitles to help with pronunciation and learning new words he is unfamiliar with. Due to the nature of the show, most of the new words were controversial or inappropriate to use in daily conversation. He had already translated the words, so he was trying to use them in a sentence with me. I provided some cultural background knowledge on the words and told him when they were appropriate to say. He also shared some Saudi Arabian culture with me, and we discussed the gender roles practiced there. He was additionally happy to discuss some things about the Islam faith with me as well. In our next session we will continue practicing the new vocabulary, focus on grammar, and work on pronunciation.

  1. good idea to focus on a show from pop culture...because it's not so boring as just going through random text and I feel they would be more motivated to learn.
