Agenda :Listening and Conversation skills
My tutee's name is Zoe and she is 8 years old.  She is in 2nd grade at a local Elementary School. Her hobbies are making jewelry, ballet dancing and swimming.  Zoe has been in the U.S. for fourteen months.  Zoe would like to improve her everyday conversation skills by building up her vocabulary.  Therefore, we have conversation regarding her school, her friends and her hobbies.  I learned in this session how important to make the tutee feel comfortable so they will speak freely.  I found that asking about the things that she likes to do and her friends caused her conversation to flow freely.  I also discovered that finding things in common helps build rapport with the tutee.

  1. I agree about making the student comfortable!! In my first child tutee session, the studying was getting along well, but it was only after we took a short break and laughed together that made the second half of the session go much better. The more relaxed a student it, the easier it is to retain information
