Today was my second tutoring session with my child tutee Zoe. We continue to work on everyday conversation skills. I asked her what did she do on the weekend. She told me her grandparents arrived from Korea and that she was teaching them English phrases. She taught them, "Hi my name is ---" "How are you" and "Nice to meet you". We also worked on improving reading skills and on learning synonyms. We read several stories from books I brought from the library to help gauge her reading level. Her favorite book was "Wacky Wednesday. New vocabulary words were introduced in the reading so I worked with her on correct pronunciation. The books had lots of pictures which served as great visual aides in helping her understand the definition of certain words in the story. I learned that Zoe is a very visual learner and that kinetic activities will help her as well.
