Today I accompanied my husband Milton
on his last child tutoring session with Matthew. At first Matthew was somewhat shy
and distracted probably due to my presence. Her chose to read a super hero
booklet, so I ask him which was his favorite super hero movie and he said The
Avengers. I told him that I like them too and that Thor was my favorite
Avenger. Then besides other things we spoke about I also told him that I
understood how he felt about having to learn and speak two languages at the
same time since that happened to me too. He briefly gave me a looked of relief
and after that he acted like he was comfortable around me, by acting playful.
He read his booklet and at the end of it he wrote a summary. Milton reviewed
with Matthew his vocabulary list and reading summary and praise him for his
good work. Milton showed a lot of patience, even though Matthew seemed to get easily distracted but he got to finish his assignment successfully. We also told him that if he
finished on time he would play the game Milton brought him, so that motivated
him to finish sooner. I learned that it is important to be organized,
encouraging and have patience.
