Salah TS #1

This was my first child tutee session.  I met with Young and her parents at the Leroy Collins Public Library.  As it was a first session, I focused on 'needs assessment' and getting to know her personally.  She is 5 years old and has been tutored for 6 months before.

Her parents had already selected some of her favorite reading books and a folder which had some of her homework/writing and drawing.

She read a section from her favorite book and I noticed she often pronounced 'th' and 's' sounds interchangeably (I pointed this out as an area to work on, when her mother returned at the end of the session).

I was impressed with Young's level of knowledge for a 5 year old.  She can count up to 100 and knows that in April, she will be 6 years old.  She also told me her grandparents were very very old.  When I asked how old, she said '4000! '

Lastly, I asked her to describe some pictures she had drawn.

  1. She sounds like a bright kid! Glad you are enjoying your tutee. Maybe to help her pronounce these "th" and "s" sounds you can do dyadic pairing. like "Irene, Eilene", "Rake, lake". Just create a bunch of words that sound similar but swap them out to get her to practice making these sounds correctly!
