Today
I got the opportunity to take part of a very interesting research study with
CIES students. During this time I was able to speak with multiple different
students from all around the world. The activity we did with the students was
to figure out what the most important holiday was in his/her country, as well
as, different greeting they use. One gentlemen I had in my group was from
Kuwait and told me the most important day for them is Independence Day which
happened to be just two weeks ago. During this day they celebrate outside of
their house and party in the streets with friends the entire day. Another
student I had was from Colombia and said, their most famous day was Christmas
but they celebrate on the 24th instead of the 25. For Christmas they
always and only celebrate with their families for the entire day of the 24th.
I felt like this opportunity was well worth it and gave all the students a
better understanding of the different cultures they are surrounded by everyday
with their friends. I enjoyed it a lot and can’t wait till next Thursday to
talk more with the CIES students.

Robert, what were you able to share with the students? What were some of their questions and reactions to what you had to share?
