On Tuesday I met with my tutee, Taeyoung Kim. He is a
student from South Korea who is studying English so that he can go to grad
school and get a PhD. Since it was the first meeting we only got to know each other and what he needs help on. I learned that Taeyoung want me to focus a lot on his listening skills and his speech. He said that it is difficult for him to function outside of a classroom setting. So we agreed that we should spend sometime role playing different situation in everyday life like shopping at Publix, ordering food, and going to Starbucks. We also spent time talking about his life so that I could get an idea of how well he could communicate ideas with me. His vocabulary is very good but he needs to work on making complete sentences. He had to repeat himself a lot and a majority of the time we spent together I was fixing his english. With all that being said I really liked Taeyoung he is very down to earth. He told me about christian culture in South Korea and he talked about his family and how his parents tried to have a boy. I am looking forward to working with him.
Great idea to use role play in real settings :)
