Kerri TS #1

On Wednesday evening I had the pleasure of meeting with my tutees, Abdullah and Mohammed for the first time. They are both from Saudi Arabia, and they hope to get into graduate school programs after they pass their exams. Abdullah arrived first, and we practiced speaking and pronunciation. Those are the two areas he feels he needs to focus on the most. He encouraged me to correct him whenever he made any mistakes, and he offered me teaching suggestions. Mohammed arrived a little later, and he told me he was a visual learner. He said he likes to watch American comedy programs like Friends with English subtitles, so he can learn English and culture. He told me his old tutor was an actress, so she had a lot of enthusiastic teaching methods that he took great interest in. I am excited to plan interactive activities for our next session. I want to have them pick random note cards (without looking at them) with a different word or person featured and have them taped to their foreheads. Then we will all take turns giving clues until they guess them correctly. We will focus specifically on articles, infinitives, and gerunds.

  1. Great idea for a fun activity and a really good way to get everyone involved in an interesting game! Hope you don't mind if I use this idea for the future! Thanks for sharing!

  2. I think it is really important to identify the best learning styles for each person. That's great that you have an activity that caters to the learning style.
