Intercultural workshop #1
During intercultural workshop I talked to
CIES student from level 4 and level 3. We talked about greetings and traditions
from their home countries. Even from greetings in some languages, I learnt that
there is respectful way and informal way of greeting. There are different
non-verbal gestures used in greetings. In my group we talked about wedding
traditions. We found some similarities and differences. For, example in Kazakhstan
cousins can’t marry up until 7th generation and in Saudi Arabia it
is normal to marry cousins, and sometimes even more desired than marrying
someone outside of family. Some students had very proficiency, others made few
mistakes and were able to correct themselves right after making mistake. I was
asked to correct only once, when the student didn't know which preposition will be
more appropriate in/on.
I have heard this before about how marrying a cousin is preferred because of loyalty to the family. Interesting discussions. I wish to comprehend more non-verbal gestures and find out what is culturally appropriate in regards to these non-verbals.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you were able to understand a reason motivating the cultural practice of marrying within the family. Good job providing some grammar support as well!
