Matthew CO#3
For my third classroom observation, I observed Sana McHarek again for her reading class. Sana covered the difference between explicit and implicit information. She continued to state how some main ideas are explicitly laid out for you, while other main ideas are implicit and require a bit more research. She explained the concepts of supporting details and context clues to help the students locate the main idea in two different passages. When a new vocab word was crossed, she would write it on the board and ask students to define it, and she would declare what part of speech it was. She ended the class with a detailed definition of fiction and non-fiction texts, as well as different types of writing: expository, persuasive, informative, narratives, etc. This class was a pleasure to observe and I believe that Sana engages her students by frequently calling on them to produce language for her, especially when they are absorbed in their phones.
