Robert CO #1
My
very first classroom observation was with Group 4A Grammar students. This class
was probably the most fast past class that I was able to observe. The students
started with a warm-up exercise that required them to write three sentences
about something they have done more than one time in the past year. Once they
finished this exercise they got together as a class and talked about different
things they have done and to see if any other student has done the same thing.
All students where very engaged on their activities throughout the entire
class. If student was to make a verbal or written error in English the teacher
would immediately acknowledge his/her error. The teacher would do this by
repeating the sentence to the student; the students knew automatically when the
teacher repeats a sentence that somebody made an error. The last activity the
students engaged in as a class was the teacher posted a picture on the projector
and the class was to write in present tense on what was happening in the
picture. Students at the higher level seemed to have basically no issue in
writing in the correct tense which was quite surprising to me.

I like the strategy of repeating the sentence. Give the students to work out the answer for themselves rather than just correcting.
