Today I met up with Farj again at Starbucks. He was fifteen minutes late but bought a chocolate croissant for both of us, as if to apologize. I found this to be very nice of him. We worked with his composition and brainstorming and planning his writings. He wasn't familiar with the term brainstorming and did not seem too familiar with a web map pre-write. I informed him about both of these things and we browsed many topics including soccer, swimming, and finally the Olympics. Farj had a difficult time explaining exactly what his assignment was and didn't bring any accompanying homework or class material. This taught me to always remind my tutees to bring their assignments with them because it took much longer than expected to begin the writing assignment. We finished the lesson with a discussion on pollen and allergies, and being allergic to things like pets, nuts, and fruit that can sometimes make us sneeze, itch, and congested. Most of these words were new to him and it seemed like an appropriate topic since everyone's cars are now covered in nasty pollen!
