They read text yesterday and today they had to reply to the
questions. Students wrote down answers. Then one by one, teacher asked each
student to answer the question. She wrote down whatever student said, and if
there was mistake she asked other students to correct it. Students were able to
identify and correct all the mistakes of their classmates. The most common
mistake was with “s” at the end of third person singular regular verb form.
Then teacher reviewed vocab that she will be testing
tomorrow.
Teacher worked on the previous quiz mistakes, explained
difference between weight and height, as several students seemed to be confused
about that.
They worked on pronouncing short vowels “A” – apple, “E”-
egg, “I”- itch, “O”-on and “U”-umbrella. There were different practical exercises
when students had to identify which sound was pronounced. Many students were confused
about sounds for the letters “a” and “e”, as well as “o” and “u”.
Teacher used deductive methods. She started from explaining
the rules on short vowels then continued with various exercises.
Everybody was engaged with the class.
Thanks for sharing Inky! I would imagine that O and U would be easy to mistake for each other as a non-native speaker. I like the example of using short vowel sounds like the words above.
